How often should you get pest control in Brisbane?

A general pest treatment once a year suits the majority of Brisbane properties. The best window is late winter into early spring, before the warmer months arrive. Ants, cockroaches and spiders become far more active as temperatures and humidity climb through October to March, so treating just ahead of that surge means the barrier is fresh when pressure is highest.

A general treatment typically covers common pests around the home: black ants and coastal brown ants, German and Australian cockroaches, spiders around eaves and fence lines, and silverfish. It is not a termite treatment. General pest treatments start from $180 for a standard home, with larger or multi-storey properties quoted to the job.

Several things can shift the recommendation from once a year to twice, or to a more regular schedule. Older homes with more gaps, cracks and timber tend to give pests more entry points. Properties backing onto bushland, parks or creek lines see steadier pressure from ants, spiders and the occasional rodent, so those homes often benefit from a second visit.

A past history of infestation is another signal. If a property has dealt with a serious cockroach or ant problem before, staying ahead of it is easier than clearing it again. Households with pets sometimes prefer more frequent, targeted treatments to keep on top of fleas. And the property type matters: a busy family home, a rental, or anywhere food is handled will justify closer attention than a low-traffic house.

Businesses generally need pest control more often than homes, and the interval is set by the site rather than the calendar. Cafes, restaurants, food manufacturers and aged-care facilities carry both a higher pest risk and a compliance obligation, so quarterly or monthly servicing with documentation is common.

Termite inspections are separate from general pest control and should not be folded into the same visit. The Australian Standard AS 3660 recommends a competent timber pest inspection at least once every twelve months for most homes. Properties in higher-risk settings, such as those near bushland or with a known local termite history, may warrant inspections every six months.

A general treatment protects against the common surface pests you see. A termite inspection looks for the destructive activity you usually cannot see until damage is done.
